Our two relay team boys under 12 and 13 won gold at the Munster Indoor Championships in Nenagh last weekend. Brian Murphy won with both teams and also got silver in 60m.With Brian under 12 were Cian McCarthy, Gary Cronin, CAthal Collins. Under 13 Brian had Christopher O'Donoghue, Patrick Warren and Darragh Moynihan.

At the Wild West Run on the old Kenmare road last Saturday, Simon Mangan was 3rd man and John Barrett 4th. Brid Stack was 2nd female, Briget Flynn 3rd and Annette O'Brien 5th.

All roads lead to the Denesne Killarney on next Saturday morning for the first of our 5k races. Start time 11am, entries from 10am in the old Mon port rd. The series will continue each Saturday same time, same place until 19th March when the prizes will be given.

This is a note to remind those who hold yearly tockets in our lotto, that the time has come to fix up with the club for the coming year. We wish to thank you all so much for supporting our lotto which keeps the club going. The jackpot is €19,400 at the moment so it is well worth winning.

Membership to the club is also due at the moment, €15 per child, €20 per adult. I am sure you have all paid at this stage of the year.

Dates of fixtures: Gneeveguilla AC winter road league in the Demesne Killarney on Sat Feb 26th, Mar 5th, 12th and 19th at 11am each morning. Registar in the old Monestry 10am onwards, €5 each race. Prizes given on the last day.

At the county juvenile championships we scored as much as any other year but this year both St.Brendans and Tralee Harriers were away up, so we had to settle for 3rd place. Our athletes did really well at the South Munster schools during the week; they will be going again this week, best of luck to them.

Don't forget our open sports for May 23rd in Riocht track; we have a fine junvenile programme of some 75 events, starting with the throws at 12noon.

We had a good day at the Munster Masters Road Races in Rathkeale last Sunday. Mike Browne won his age group, John Barrett was 2nd over 40. Vincent McGaley and Mattie Angland were on the medal winning Kerry team.

The 20th annual Jack O'Keeffe festival of road races takes place in Kiskeam this Easter Monday commencing with the Juveniles at 12 noon, the walk is 1pm and the big race from Boherbue to Kiskeam at 2pm. We want to see all our members turning up for these races as the programme costs a heap of money to host.

The Good Friday run in Killarney also reatures juvenile road races at 7pm at the Market cross.

There is a club day from 10am to 1pm in Riocht track this coming Saturday. Note only children of competition age need turn up. The age groups catered for are boys & girls born in 1992, '93, '94, '95, '96, '97, '98, '99, '00, '01, '02. The events are sprints, middle distance, long jump, high jump, triple jump, hurdles, shot, discus, javelin, hammer, walks & ball throw. Note the start is 10am and parents are asked to help out.

A word of praise for David O'Keeffe who came 19th in the All-Ireland schools Cross Country in CIT last Saturday.

Our athletes were in the medals at the Munster road championships in Ballyea near Ennis last Sunday. Anna Meria Costelloe was 2nd Novice, and with Breeda and Siobhan Barrett and Niamh O'Sullivan of Riocht, they got 3rd county. The men also did well with Ed Murphy & Jogn Barrett scoring on the winning Kerry team. And Ed Murphy, Sean Cahillane and Jonathon Lennistone scoring on a Kerry Novice which came 3rd.

We had to give best to a strong St Brendans outfit at the county sportshall athletics finals in the Green last Saturday. We had however many fine performances during the course of the day. Individual medals were won by Ava Burke, Kate Maher, Donal O'Sullivan, Maeve O'Connor, Sinead Warren 2, Kate Dennehy Fintan O'Connor Lauren Kenneally all gold. Maeve O'Connor,Ian O'Connor, Lauren Kenneally, Ciara Kennelly, Ava Burke, Brian O'Keeffe Conlon O'Leary 2, Brenda Murphy, Marlyn O'Leary, Andrew Cronin, all silver. Ciara Kennelly, Ana Bellew, Conlon O'Leary, Sean O'Sulivan 2, Rachel Fitzgerald, Lauren Kenneally, Maeve O'Connor, Shane Warren, Anna Clifford, Ruth Cremin, Brian O'Keeffe and Tomas O'Neill all bronze. Relay winners under 9 Laura Moynihan, Grace Kelly, Maeve O'Connor and Ciara Kenneally. Under 11 boys Donal O'Sullivan, Fintan O'Connor, Denis O'Connor and Daniel O'Mahoney. In 2nd place were girls under 10 Anna Clifford, Katie Murphy, Cloe Fitzgerald and Niamh Quinn. Pride of place this week goes to our medal winners in Nenagh at the Munster Indoor Championships, Mel O'Callaghan did outstanding to take 3rd in a highly competitive 60m. Hannah O'Sullivan was 2nd shot under 16; Shane McAulliffe 2nd shot under 19 and Eimear Foley 3rd 1500m under 17.

Tony Foley, Tony O'Grady, Brendan Lynch, Mary O'Connell and Nora Flynn all had a successful outing to Adare for the annual 10k road race, well done.

The fit4life group in Gneeveguilla have been in contact with organiser Maggie O'Leary and have decided on Friday evenings 7pm at the GAA field as their meeting point. It was so nice to see dozens of Nora's Killarney group complete the winter series and take prizes last Saturday, you can do it too.

We were represented at the Munster Colleges cross-country in CIT last Friday. Tadgh Moore was 5th Senior and David O'Keeffe 8th Junior, both now go on to the All-Irelands later in the month in the same venue.

The winter series of road races continued last Saturday in Killarney with another win for Ed Murphy, John Barrett was 2nd, Kenneth Barry 3rd, John Foley 4th, Hugh McKenzie-Vass 5th and Ger O'Shea from Caherciveen 6th. Eilish Fitzpatrick came through her biggest test to date when she qualified for the final of 60m at the National indoor championships in Belfast over the weekend. She eventually finished 6th in her first major senior competition, well done. She competes in the Irish Universities championship next weekend.

The Munster indoor championships were on in Nenagh over the weekend and we got the following medals: Brian Murphy 1st 60m under 11 and 3rd 600m under 11, David O'Connor 3rd shot under 13. the under 12 relay team of Christopher O'Donoghue, Brian Murphy, Donal O'Sullivan and Darragh Moynihan was 2nd.

At the Mallow 10miler last Sunday our athletes did the following times: Ed Murphy 60mins, Kenneth Barry 62mins, Fergal Barry 64mins, AnnaMeria Costello 66mins, Seamus Murphy & Hugh McKenzie-Vass 68min, Mattie Angland 72mins, Tony Foley 77mins, Mary O'Connell: 78mins, Michael Dineen 81mins, Nora Flynn 84 mins. It's hard going with some of these runners who did the Dungarvan 10mile last Sunday week, did the Demesne on Saturday and Mallow 10mile this Sunday.

Eilish Fitzpatrick goes in the National senior 60m in the Odyssey in Belfast next weekend and we wish her the best in her first venture into senior competition. We had great performances in Kilbeggan at the All-Ireland cross-country last Sunday. Dean Crowley & Patrick Warren were 12th & 13th under 12. Were it not for the fact that Patrick had a mis-hap towards the end of the race, our club team of Dean, Patrick, David O'Connor and Colin O'Keeffe would surely have got in the medals., as it was were only beaten by 5 points out of the bronze.

David O'Keeffe ran the race of his life to finish 13th under 14, in the process he was a member of the Munster team which finished 2nd, and on the Kerry team which finished 1st.

Niamh Joy ran a stormer to finish 28th girls under 18.

Next Sunday we have the Munster 'B' juveniles in Moyglass Co.Tipperary at 12 noon. We are taking a big bus there, so all on board for our last big day out this season. Also in Moyglass we have the Masters championships, we will have a few in that.

The big event this weekend was the lapping of the lakes road race in Killarney, as usual our club was well represented. John Barrett was 6th, Caroline Murphy 4th, Brid Stack 6th, Mary O'Connell 1st over 35, Maggie O'Leary won over 40, with Nora Flynn winning over 45. Seamus Murphy won over 40, with Brendan Joy 1st in schools. Marguerite O'Donoghue and Oliver Moynihan won the fit4life sections.

On Sunday morning some of these runners were out again at the 1/2 marathon through the Gap of Dunloe. Seamus Murphy was in 9th place with Denise Casey in 2nd place in the ladies section.

Others to run well on a very wet heavy course, were juveniles Adam Walsh, Conor O'Brien, Patrick Brosnan, Brian Brosnan, Cathal Collins, Gearoid Daly, Michael Brosnan, Dean Crowley, David O'Connor, Colin O'Keeffe, Conor Crowley, Risteard Clifford, Andrew McCarthy,Sinead Warren, Laura Kelly, Shannon O'Leary, Lauren Kenneally, Marlyn O'Leary and Niamh Joy who was badly injured during her race, we wish her a speedy recovery as she is due to run with the Munster team in Kilbeggan Co.Westmeath on the 22nd November.

Our intermediate ladies team of Caroline Murphy, Brid Stack, Maggie O'Leary and Martina O'Leary ran their hearts out to claim 2nd club and 3rd county in their 4,000m race.

The Kerry cross-country season came to a close on Sunday last in the Killarney Demesne with the running of the relays; we had 4 boys teams and took medals in all of them. Boys were 2nd place in under 11,13 and 15. The boys who ran so well were Brian Murphy, Gary Cronin, Cian McCarthy, Fintan O'Connor, Michael Brosnan, Shane Crowley, Dean Crowley, David O'Connor, Barry O'Connor, Ashley Campion Conor Crowley and Risteard Clifford. We also got a set of bronze medals under 11 with Donal O'Sullivan, Brian O'Keeffe, Darragh Moynihan and Patrick Warren. Catherine Kiely was 2nd Senior with Caroline Murphy 4th. While Ed Murphy was 6th in his senior championship.

Next Sunday the Munster intermediate and under 9,11,13,15,17 and 19 cross-country is on in Tralee Racecourse at 12 noon.

Please note that this Friday will be the last training session in Gneeveguilla hall if the numbers turning up does not increase dramatically, this training is for little ones starting school or older. Times 6pm to 7pm.

Star of the cross-country in Firies last Sunday was Ed Murphy who captures the intermediate title in fine style, well done to a fine athlete who trains hard. Maggie O'Leary was to the fore in both the masters and the intermediate race. In the tram event we got first with Ed Murphy, Jonathon Lennistone, Vincent McGaley, Kevin Lynch and Michael Dineen. In fact, Vincent, Kevin and Michael as well as Mike Browne, all captured Masters titiles Master titles in their respective age groups. A great days work.

In the juvenile section, we were very successful with wins for Patrick Warren and Niamy Joy. 2nd place for Dean Crowley and Grainne Dineen. David Gleeson, David O'Keeffe, Brendan Joy, Sean Curtin and Laura Kelly were all in the medals.

Next Sunday we have the County relays and the county Senior and Junior in the Demesne at 12noon sharp.

The cross country season got off to a lively start in Ardfert on Sunday last with the Gneeveguilla club doing well. Elaine Cronin won the novice ladies with Maggie O'Leary in 3rd place. Ed Murphy, the pre-race favourite, had to settle for second place after a gruelling race and our team of Ed Murphy, Sean Cahillane, Vincent McGaley and Seamus Murphy also had to settle for 2nd in the team event.

In the juveniles, Katie Maher and Sinead Warren got individual medals under 10. Cathal Collins got one in the boys. We had the winner under 12 in Dean crowley, with Patrick Warren and David O'Connor also in the medals. Shannon O'Leary was on the rostrum under 12 girls. Amy Cronin was in the first 6 under 14 and got a medal. David O'Keeffe was a very good 2nd under 14, as was Emir Foley under 16. Risteard Clifford did very well in his first cross-country race with the club. As far as it's known, we are lying in 3rd place in the overall club standings, so it will take a major effort to get back on track if we are to retain our trophy.

Next Sunday we go to Dungarvan to the Munster even-age championships and the novice and under 23 cross-country.

At the National Championships in Tullamore last weekend : Rita Casey gold medal in the discus and 2nd in the javelin. Eilish Fitzpatrick gold in the 100m. Danielle O'Connor silver in the shot. Rebecca Daly, Danielle Vaughan, Shane McAuliffeand Hannah O'Sullivan all gave everything in their quest for vistory in their finals.We also had Sinead Horgan, Micheal O'Neill, Tadgh Moore and Aidan O'Sullivan doing hteir very best in what was a most fiercely contested championship.

Next weekend, we have Tullamore 2 days to conclude the juvenile programme for this year. At the moment we have 16 National medals won this year and are hoping for more next weekend.

We had great success at the national finals in Templemore last Saturday. Brian Murphy & Cian McCarthy 3rd in joint 60m, Emma Walsh & Niamh Fitzgerald 4th in ball throw. Under 10 relay team of Niamh Fitzgerald, Sinead Warren, Ava Looney and Katie Maher were 5th in final, Under 11 relay team of Brian Murphy, Christopher O'Donoghue, Patrick Warren and Darragh Moynihan were 2nd. Under 10 relay team of Cian McCarthy, Gary Cronin, Cathal Collins and Brian Murphy won gold.

On a sad note, the death has occurred of Michael Brosnan Artigallavin. Michael ran for many years with our veterans teams and has had the honour of running a host of marathons. In 1986 he was club veteran athlete of the year, while a year later he was on the veteran team of the year with the late Denny O'Connor, Paddy O'Donoghue and Brendan Ashe. To his wife and family, we extend our deepest sympathy.

At the Munster Championships in Templemore last weekend we captured some 29 medals. With Saturday giving the worst weather I ever witnessed at Track & Field, we performed heroics to emerge as one of the top clubs in Munster. Winners were : Emma Walsh, Niamh Fitzgerald, Cian McCarthy, Brian Murphy, Gary Cronin, Danielle O'Connor, Sinead Horgan, Rebecca Daly, Christopher O'Donoghue and Darragh Moynihan. All individual.Relay Gold went to: Danielle O'Connor, Beatrice Casey, Siobhan Fitzgerald, Sinead Horgan, Brian Murphy, Gary Cronin, Cian McCarthy, Cathal Collins, Darragh Moynihan, Christopher O'Donoghue, Patrick Warren. Silver won by: Niamh Fitzgerald, Sinead Warren, Ava Looney and Katie Maher. Bronze medal winners: Rebecca Daly, Rebecca Kerins, Amy Cronin and Evie Casey. Darragh Moynihan & Patrick Warren were 4th in 60m.

Top Athlete Eilish Fitzpatrick has qualified for the European Junior championships in Belgrade in July. She had a blistering run to win the Munster Junior 100m in C.I.T. last Monday and in the process defeated the National senior indoor champion & member of the Irish Senior team in Turin, Niamh Whelan from Ferrybank.Sensational. Her time for the record was 11.89secs.
